Need to retake a test?
You need to fill out the retake form before scheduling a retake time.
The Writing Process:
1. Brainstorming: Text2Mind Map, Holt Organizers, Eduplace
Audio Tools: Online Dictation, Talk Typer, Vocaroo 2. Drafting: Many times when we draft, seeing red underlines below words, in Google Doc, stops us from continuing to write and get our ideas out. Turn off Spelling Suggestions. In a Google Doc, click "View" > "Show Spelling Suggestions" Turn it on again when they are in the editing process. This helps you understand the different parts of the writing process. (I am not worried about spelling when we draft, I am interested in ideas ) 3. Editing: Highlight the first word of each sentence in your rough draft. Now check for three (3) things: 1) capital letter 2) variety of words to start your sentences 3) punctuation before that sentence with two spaces Word Choice: - Be descriptive. Use interesting adjectives: list 1, list 2, list 3, and list 4 - Character Traits: list 1, list 2 - Words other than bad, nice, or said - Have a variety of sentence types in your writing (simple, compound, and complex). - Use transition words: list 1, list 2, list 3, list 4, and list 5 - Use synonyms for words you repeat too often: right-click on your word in a Google Doc and "research." Choose 'dictionary' and find synonyms to kick up your vocabulary or you can you look up your word with an online thesaurus. Spelling: Turn your spelling suggestions back on in Google Docs. In a Google Doc, click "view"> "show spelling suggestions." Turn it on again. Check Your Work: - Check your work for dead words - Use your grammar check list in your interactive journal - Self and Peer Edit - Grammar Checker 4. Publishing: How you publish your work will depend on the type of writing 5. Evaluating: I will ask you to evaluate your work at the end of the unit by filling out a reflection sheet, please refer to our current unit of study to find the reflection worksheet. |
